I’m Steven Adams, and I’m excited you’re here! If you’ve been trying to figure out what you need to do to take your music career to the next level, or even just want to improve your musical skills for your own personal enjoyment, then you’re in the right place.

My goal is to help as many people as I can realize their full musical potential, and I’m here to help you, too. Here’s my approach: share the truth, be honest, work hard, and lead by example. That’s what I’m all about, and that’s what you’ll find here on this blog.

What exactly is a “career” in music?

It may seem like that’s a silly question, but really it isn’t – I’m aware of the traditional thought on a music career. One where you go to college and study music, graduate and then find a job in some capacity within the music industry. I understand that, but that’s not the only path to a career in music…

In my experience, the best way to pursue a career in the music industry is to do it yourself. Period, end of story

A music career may be different to each of us. Some may resonate with the scenario I gave above, yet there may be others who, through pure passion have notched out a place for their own career whether it is giving lessons, performing as a soloist or part  of a group or even building a business based around the support of others music careers.

In other words, Make it what YOU want it to be.

When we take a DIY approach to a music career we invest our time upfront creating valuable skills and experience that can help us either reach our personal goals or serve others and help them reach theirs, and really, that’s what a good business does – it helps other people solve their problems.

We work hard now to continually grow and start reaping the benefits later.

Unlike having a “day job” where you punch a clock and get paid a certain amount, having your own music career is less certain. There may be lean times or there may times of plenty. Our goal is to create a situation where the income is steady and that take a certain skill set. In the beginning, there may be less upfront cost needed compared to going to college, but trust me… there WILL be a cost. Whether in time, money, or simple sweat equity. having said that, the rewards can be great and full filling. I don’t want to discourage anyone. Like I said earlier I will share the truth and the truth is, this will take a LOT of work and effort on your part. I want to be here to help you along the way. To encourage you, to point out where you may need some attention, or to personally hold your hand through a difficult stage in your path to you own personal musical career. Here at Steven Adams music (SAM) we focus primarily on the performance part of a music career but from time to time we also go off course to discuss and dissect other business opportunists within the the basic music industry.

There’s lots to talk about, and I can’t wait to dive in with you. I recommend first getting started by watching this video below where I share 3 different “levels” of artist within the performance area of the music industry, so you can see just exactly where you are along the path from novice to the consummate professional…

What Your Music Career is NOT

Let’s dispel some myths and set realistic expectations before we go any deeper.

  1. Creating a music career is NOT easy and it takes a lot of hard work. Nothing in life comes easy. Creating music is no different. Even though it SEEMS that stars are made overnight, it takes a LOT of effort and sacrifice. Too heavy? I don’t want to give you false hope. I want to be real with you. That doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. I’m here to tell you the truth: Creating your own music career is hard. If it were easy, EVERYONE would be doing it, but if you have a burning deep within you and a desire to put in the time and effort, you can do it too!  I’ll do my best to guide you and give you the information you need, but I can’t force you to take action; that’s up to you.
  2. Developing a music career does NOT happen overnight. I don’t live, teach, or believe in get-rich-quick schemes. I’ve been there and done that. I didn’t like it then and I’m sure you wouldn’t like it now. If you are like me and would like to opt-out of the work-till-sixty-five-deferred-life plan and make your own life plan, I can do it. That means you can do it too. We will do it together!
  3. Generating an income within the music industry is NOT impossible. Sure there are big studios and they may seem to take all the work from the small project studios, but believe me. There are opportunities to make an income just doing the small stuff. If you have developed your skill enough you can do vocal work or instrument work right from your OWN project studio and then send it off to the bigger studio for the mix. AND get paid to do so. That’s just 1 small example of some opportunities that could be out there waiting for you. If you are a FUTURE ARTIST wanting to get to that next level and begin touring, I want you to know that it IS possible. I’ve done it. I bet on myself by trying to make my dream a reality. And you know what? The dream came true, and it’s totally awesome! I get to meet new people all over the country, using my God-given talent, and travel in a custom coach while doing it all. This lifestyle is possible, and I want you to experience it too.
